Shelor Motor Mile and Shelor Toyota Again Supports Childcare at Calfee Center
Days after the doors of the historic Calfee Training School were reopened as the Calfee Center, Shelor Motor Mile and Shelor Toyota announced another generous donation in support of the organization’s Harmon Learning Center. The gifts were the second set of contributions the dealerships have made as part of their ongoing sponsorship of the childcare center as well as the Calfee Center’s future Venable Digital Lab.
“The ongoing sponsorship from Shelor Motor Mile and Shelor Toyota are a signicant part of what allows the Harmon Learning Center to be a state of the art facility with not only high quality furniture, equipment and classrooms designed with features that allow teachers to focus more the care and education of children and less on logistics.” explains executive director Jill Williams, “Shelor’s gifts also allows us to recruit and retain quality teachers and sta with wages above the prevailing wage for NRV early childhood educators.”
Shelor Motor Mile and Shelor Toyota’s gifts will also help oset the start-up costs associated with the rst months of operating a childcare center before government-related funding streams are in place, meaning that children can be served even while tedious government paperwork works through the system.
“We greatly appreciate the generous contribution from the Motor Mile organization,” said Calfee board member Mike Barbour. “They are tremendous supporters of our New River Valley schools, non-prot organizations and our local communities. Their gift to the Calfee Center is just another
example of their long history of supporting projects that benet our young people and make our communities better places to live.”
