Broadneaux-Baker Hall and other Spaces

The CCCC is revitalizing a sense of connection and cooperation through an event center and office spaces that will enable community building and collaboration. A variety of spaces will be available to the local community, all equipped with state-of-the art digital, sound, and lighting technology as well as childcare and kitchen services to accommodate a range of meeting and event needs.

The Namesakes

Broadneaux-Baker Hall

Ulysses Broadneaux (1912-2001) was the first principal after erecting the new Calfee school building. Mr. Broadneaux worked at Calfee from 1939-1951. In addition to Calfee's principal, he concurrently taught sixth and seventh grades, organized the first school band, and sponsored the first school newspaper, the Calfee Junior Pioneer.

  • Designed for medium-sized musical, theatre, and dance performances as well as community gatherings, wedding receptions, family reunions, and educational functions.

  • Furnished with high quality, comfortable, lightweight, and easily portable seating and tables, flexible to accommodate any kind of setup.

  • High quality sound and lighting equipment operated through a sound booth.

  • Adjacent to state-of-the-art commercial kitchen and childcare facilities.

  • 2,000 sq. ft. facility with restored original stage can accommodate over 200 occupants with a theatre style setup.

Mary Baker (1906-2000) grew up in Pulaski and attended Calfee Training School as a child. She returned to teach in three of the county’s one-room schools before joining the Calfee faculty as a remedial first-grade teacher from 1949 to 1966. Mrs. Baker also researched and compiled a Black history of Pulaski County throughout her life.

The Broadneaux Baker Hall is sponsored in memory of Mike Hutchens by his sister and brother Betsy Hutchens Sanford and Jerry Hutchens.

 

The Other Spaces

The Broadneaux-Baker Hall (1542 sq. ft.) is ideal for hosting community meetings, intimate theatrical productions, receptions, family reunions and other events. (Sponsored in memory of Mike Hutchens.)

Medium (636 sq. ft.) multipurpose room with an adjacent small kitchen is ideal for board or committee meetings, baby showers, art classes or other purposes. 

Small (136 sq. ft.) office attached to a gallery/lounge space (341 sq. ft.) is available to small businesses, mental health, social service providers or other agencies by the day, hour or week. 

Other CCCC spaces (museum, community kitchen, computer lab, natural outdoor spaces, and childcare center) will be available for rent to support the programming happening in these spaces.
